This morning it was 10 below zero and 25 below with the windchill factor, the coldest ever in our experience in Cohasset. With ocean temperatures at 34.5 degrees and air temperatures of 10 below the temperature differential caused a massive frozen fog bank to form over the ocean, which brisk winds blew over the land mass. Like clouds, fog is made up of condensed water droplets which are the result of the air being cooled to the point where it can no longer hold all of the water vapor it contains. In temperatures like today's the fog can and did freeze into ice crystals, which created the unusual coastal scenes that you'll see in this album. It is so cold, that in some areas, the ocean is frozen over. This rarely happens in southern New England.
