Foggy early morning in St. James City, Pine Island. View from the back yard of our apartment.
The Waterfront-A nice seafood joint 50 paces from our apartment in St. James City. (By no stretch of the imagination is St. James City a "city". It is a collection of cottages, fishing bungalows and a few big homes on the south end of Pine Island.)

The fog now cleared-View south into Pine Island Sound from our apartment.
View North from our place. Pine Island has many canals where avid fisherman keep thier boats.

The tiny and colorful islet of Matlache (pronounced "MAT-la-shay"). (Matlacha (pronounced "MAT-la-shay") has a total population of 735. . The community's name comes from a Caloosa word meaning "water to the chin. Matlacha is one of five communities on Pine Island, although technically, it is located on a smaller island in Matlacha Pass, east of Pine Island. It is an "Old Florida" fishing village, home to many brightly colored art galleries, island boutiques, seafood restaurants, and traditional Floridian cottages.)

A Brown Pelican swoops in to scoop up a fish
Got 'em! The Pelican flips the fish over in his large bill (The Pelican instinctively flips the fish over in his large bill so that his prey slides down his gullet head first. If the fish were to be swallowed tail first the bird's throat and innards would be damaged by the fishes scales.)
The Brown Pelican savors his catch before swallowing it.
Yum! Lunch is over.
